How to care for your Garment...

Caring for a thobe is important to maintain its quality and ensure it lasts longer. We will answer how to iron a thobe and how to wash a thobe.  Here are some tips on how to care for your thobe:

Ironing

Use a low heat setting: Using high heat can scorch the fabric and damage the embroidery or embellishments

on the thobe. Start with a low heat setting and gradually increase the heat if necessary.

Iron inside out: Turning the thobe inside out before ironing helps to protect the embroidery and embellishments from damage. This way, the iron’s heat and steam are applied to the inside of the thobe, and any potential damage is minimized.

Use a pressing cloth: If you’re ironing a particularly delicate or intricate part of the thobe, consider using a pressing cloth. A pressing cloth is a thin piece of fabric (i.e. a towel or bed sheet works fine too) that is placed between the iron and the thobe. It helps to protect the embroidery and embellishments from direct heat and steam, preventing any potential damage.

Iron in sections: Ironing in sections helps to ensure that the thobe is properly pressed and that all the wrinkles are removed. Start with the collar and work your way down the front and back of the thobe, one section at a time.

Iron while slightly damp: Ironing your thobe while it’s slightly damp helps to ensure that it’s properly pressed and that all the wrinkles are removed. If your thobe has dried completely, you can mist it with water before ironing to achieve the same effect.

Storing after Ironing: Keep your thobe wrinkle-free by storing it on a hanger. Avoid folding it to preserve its smooth appearance.

Washing and Aftercare

Hand wash or use a delicate cycle: To avoid damaging the delicate embroidery or embellishments on your thobe, it’s best to hand wash it or use a delicate cycle on your washing machine. Use cold water and a mild detergent, and avoid using bleach or fabric softener.

Don’t soak for too long: Soaking your thobe for too long can damage the fabric and cause colour fading. Aim to soak your thobe for no more than 10-15 minutes before washing it.

Avoid wringing or twisting: Wringing or twisting your thobe to remove excess water can damage the delicate embroidery or embellishments. Instead, gently squeeze out the excess water or roll the thobe in a towel to remove moisture.

Hang to dry: Hanging your thobe on a hanger to dry is the best way to maintain its shape. Avoid using a dryer, as the heat can shrink the fabric and damage the embroidery or embellishments.

Aftercare: We recommend that once washed that the thobe is kept in a cool dry place and not within any direct sunlight.
